Shopify bands with Giglabs to launch an NFT minting & trading service for its merchants. The NFT beta program is open only for US-based merchants.

Shopify, the e-commerce giant, has launched an NFT service for its users. The service allows its merchants to create and trade non-fungible tokens. Shopify partnered with GigLabs, the leading blockchain service provider, to float this service on its platform.

The NFT service, available via the GigLabs NFT App, is now available on the Shopify App Store. On December 16, Tobias Lütke notified the launch of the service via his Twitter handle.

Shopify merchants will be able to mint and trade branded NFTs using this service. However, the service is still in the beta phase and limited only to US-based plus merchants.

Shopify NFT Service Makes Minting NFTs Quick & Easy

Shopify is not new to NFTs. Earlier this year, the Canadian e-Commerce firm kickstarted the trading of NFTs on its platform. However, this NFT minting service marks a new phase in Shopify’s attitude towards NFTs. This new service shows a possible glimpse into the future of NFTs on Shopify.

Robleh Jama, Shopify’s director of product, said “Our growing NFT app ecosystem demonstrates our commitment to offering merchants an accessible approach to selling digital assets directly through their Shopify stores”. Also, he said that he was elated to welcome GigLabs to the Shopify NFT ecosystem. In the end, he stated that the service will allow merchants to create new e-commerce experiences via NFTs.

Coming to the development of the GigLabs NFT app, the blockchain service thanked BreakingT and Infinite Objects for their help. BreakingT is a real-time sports apparel company while Infinite Objects is a video-printing service. Prior to the app’s launch, these two firms were involved in the design and building of the app. In addition, they also brought out the first NFTs using the GigLabs app.

According to Shopify, for users to mint NFTs using its service, no prior blockchain knowledge is required. This makes NFTs more accessible to the common masses.

In the case of payments, buyers can pay using Shopify Payments or Shop Pay. Payments using cryptocurrencies, credit and debit cards are also welcome.  Once the purchase is done, buyers will receive the NFTs via email. They can then add the NFTs directly to their wallets.
