Today, the crypto community is overwhelmed with numerous arguments as regards the asset that truly depicts Satoshi Nakamoto’s whitepaper between BTC and Bitcoin Cash. Recall that Nakamoto suddenly became untraceable barely a year after inventing the greatest crypto asset.

However, before he became anonymous, reports indicated that he communicated and exchanged emails with other developers of the project, including Gavin Andresen, Roger Ver, Peter Vessenes, Mark Karpeles, Patrick Murck, and many more. These guys managed the source code of Bitcoin for years before they began to disagree over the future of the project.

How Bitcoin Cash came to Life

Around 2016, Bitcoin developers, like Roger Ver, Craig Wright, and several others disagreed with the various modifications done to the project. Meanwhile, Wright had been claiming to be Nakamoto since 2015, and insisted that the various changes made to the project contradict “his” dream. Recall that none of these developers ever met Nakamoto before his eventual disappearance in 2010. They only communicated via email. Although Wright is being labeled as fake “Satoshi Nakamoto,” no one can really tell if he is truly who he claims to be or not.

Ver, Wright and, a few others began to accuse other developers of destroying Bitcoin usage as money. They believe the modifications done to the source code of the project are not in alignment with Nakamoto’s white paper. Specifically, Wright argued that original Bitcoin is not crypto, but digital cash. According to the self-acclaimed Bitcoin inventor, Bitcoin is traceable, pseudonymous according to its white paper.

Later in 2017, the disagreement among the developers of Bitcoin as regards the original nature of the project resulted into a hard fork. This hard fork led to the emergence of Bitcoin Cash from Bitcoin. Wright’s view was that Bitcoin Cash would better portray the original principles of Bitcoin as enshrined in Nakamoto’s white paper. Nevertheless, barely a year later, Ver and Wright disagreed over the future of Bitcoin Cash too. This led to another hard fork that brought Bitcoin SV to life in 2018.

Is Bitcoin Cash the original Bitcoin?

The argument of Bitcoin Cash being the original Bitcoin is controversial just like the scenario that preceded the birth of the former. BTC has long existed before the hard fork that made BCH hit the limelight. More so, the two tokens share the same source; blockchain, and have the same amount of supply. Nevertheless, their distinctive features are vivid enough to differentiate between the two. Consequently, projecting pointers to believe that Bitcoin is the original project instead of its counterpart.

Initially, Satoshi Nakamoto alongside other developers designed Bitcoin in a period when cryptocurrency hasn’t gained much relevance. Due to that, the structure of Bitcoin could only cater to a small community of users. Additionally, the developers of Bitcoin at the point of its creation never envisioned that the project would enjoy global acceptance. If they had global acceptance in mind, Bitcoin would definitely have an infrastructure that’ll allow it to process voluminous transactions.

The Bitcoin network on the bad side is characterized by its delay in processing transactions. This is due to its small block size of 1 MB. The block size could only process seven transactions per second. To a reasonable extent, such network capacity can effectively serve a small community of users. On the other end, Bitcoin Cash is designed to upgrade the little capacity of the Bitcoin network. It processes transactions better and faster compared to Bitcoin due to its block size of 8 MB. Then, how can an upgrade of a product claim to be the original in place of the initial one? Logically, the argument of Bitcoin Cash being the original Bitcoin is wrong.

Conclusion

To gain more ground for their conspiracy theory, Bitcoin Cash enthusiasts argued that the only mechanism Satoshi had in mind to counter the scalability issue of Bitcoin is to increase block size. While this argument may look appealing, still it never out rules the legitimacy of Bitcoin as the original project. The conspiracy theory surfaced as part of Craig Wright’s desperate pursuit of claiming the ownership of Bitcoin. However, as his efforts haven’t produced reputable proof of being the creator of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash is far away from winning the argument of being the original project.
