The founder and CEO of Stackr Labs, Kautuk Kundan has called on all crypto games developers to stick with their on-chain root. On Tuesday, in a post via his official page on X, the expert discussed how many crypto games claim to be blockchain-based when they are not.

According to Kundan, most blockchain games should be verifiable on-chain. In the post, the CEO discussed how he hacked a new crypto arcade game designed by Atari.

Furthermore, Kundan noted how the Asteroids game claimed to be based on the Base network. Verifying these claims, Kundan and his team at Stackr Labs hacked the game and realized it had no on-chain root.

Kundan Urges Crypto Games To Maintain Blockchain Roots

More so, the CEO illustrated how he, alongside his team at Stackr Labs, manipulated the leaderboard of the game without participating in a single contest. Additionally, the expert explained the absence of an  on-chain action whenever users are playing the game.

He explained further that at the end of the game when a user gets a score, such a player according to Kundan can put in an API call. The expert explained how users can simply send API calls to web2 servers to manipulate the game and earn good scores.

How Losing Blockchain Root May Permit Manipulation By Bad Actors

Hence, allowing such manipulation according to the developer is an indication that the game is not actually on-chain. Furthermore, he added that his team didn’t manipulate the scores of other players.

However, he refused to rule out the possibility that bad actors playing the game may also manipulate their scores to stay higher up the list. Also, Kundan explained that even if the app operates off-chain, it should provide commitments that are verifiable on-chain.

He added that if games are claiming to be on-chain, they must also ensure that they are verifiable on the blockchain.

Lastly, he revealed that the hack didn’t surface with bad intention or for a negative call-out. Instead, the developer clarified that the call-out is an attempt to find a solution to recurring issues in the crypto space.

Recall that on July 25, Atari launched the Asteroids game in collaboration with Base, a layer 2 network designed by Coinbase.

In the gameplay, Atari offered users the opportunity to enjoy the thrills and excitement of playing the retro arcade game and climb high on the leaderboard to win prizes. These prizes include a $1,000 Atari gift card.
