Consensys has announced the launch of Linea Association, an Independent Swiss non-profit organization. In a blog post released today, Consensys confirmed that the association would manage the growth, development and governance of Linea’s open-source technology and ecosystem.

According to the post, Linea Association aim to decentralize the linea network- the zkEVM Layer-2 solution designed by Consensys to scale Ethereum. It aims to achieve this decentralization by launching the LINEA token at the end of the first quarter of 2025. Similarly, this move also represents the association’s dedication toward ensuring community-driven governance.

Objectives of Linea Association

The Linea Association was established to achieve three main objectives. The first of this objective is providing support for the development of the Linea mainnet, powered by Linea technology. The association will also continue the building of networks that are fast, affordable, and secure for all users from various economic and social backgrounds.

Furthermore, the Association will also prioritize the advancement of Linea’s decentralization. As revealed, this advancement will be achieved through the development of new governance mechanisms and the implementation of decentralized sequencing and proving. It also aids developers in building decentralized applications with greater user experience.

The Association also strives to foster the formation and growth of stronger communities of real people with meaningful interaction. Similarly, it seeks to empower users and businesses to securely store and manage their valuable on-chain data including digital identities and property. Some of its real-life use cases include seamless on-chain payment via Metamask card, and on-chain identity projects using attestation registries like Verax.

While reacting to the launch, the founder of Linea and board member of the Association, Nicolas Liochon noted that decentralization is the core of Linea’s vision. He further emphasized that Linea’s ownership and governance will openly reside with the general public just like Layer 1 Ethereum.

It is worth noting that the governance structure of the Linea Association will consist of four key members. The members include a Board of Directors, a General Assembly, an Executive Director, and a token governance body.
