Renowned digital asset provider, HashKey has secured a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license from the Ireland Central Bank. In a Twitter post on Tuesday, the exchange confirmed the development, stating that its Europe subsidiary obtained the approval.

According to the post, the VASP license allows HashKey to render various crypto services to Ireland users. These services include the offering of fiat-crypto exchange, crypto-crypto exchange, and custodial wallet services. It also facilitates the transfer of digital assets on behalf of other people.

It is noteworthy that HashKey views Ireland as an important market for its International expansion. In addition to the VASP license from Ireland, the exchange also holds operational licenses in Bermuda, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Ireland in an announcement on December 30, 2024, made it mandatory for all crypto services providers in the country to apply for VASP registration. The financial regulatory body also required registration with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) measures under the European Union’s Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD5).

As revealed, the registration was mandated as a result of the recently introduced Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulations (MiCA) in the country. According to Derville Rowland, the deputy governor of Ireland Central Bank, MiCA provides local institutions with guidelines needed to eliminate financial barriers.

In August 2024, HashKey OTC, the over-the-counter trading division of the exchange obtained a Major Payment Institution (MPI) license from Singapore regulatory authority. As revealed, the license allows HashKey to offer unrestricted payment services to its Singapore users.
