Popular anti-blockchain fraud platform Blockaid has warned the cryptocurrency community not to interact with the official website of Pepecoin. The firm made the statement on Thursday via a post on its official X page.

Blockaid warned that the frontend of the popular meme coin has been compromised. More so, the platform revealed that Pepecoin’s website is currently redirecting users to an illicit address.

According to the cybersecurity platform, the webpage’s code currently contains an Inferno Drainer. Meanwhile, Inferno Drainer is a dimension of scam tools that are deployed by bad actors to drain users’ funds.

This suite of attack mechanisms contains phishing website templates, wallet drainers, and social engineering tools. Meanwhile, the firm has not confirmed the degree of the breach.

It is worth mentioning that Pepecoin has shown no reaction to the attack as the meme coin currently maintains a stable price. Market data from Coinmarketcap revealed that PEPE is trading at $0.000004900 and has been up by 4% in the last 24hours.

Nevertheless, the meme coin, despite enjoying an explosive 2024, endured a serious price correction that pushed it down by 76.53% in the last 12 months. While it is advisable for users to completely avoid the website at the moment, the issue also points to how hackers are targeting cryptocurrency projects due to their valuable liquidity pools.

Humans now crypto’s weak link – Elliptic

According to Elliptic, the majority of the cyber attacks the crypto market has suffered in 2025 are due to social engineering attacks. Just like the latest breach on Pepecoin, hackers for most of the year, deceived crypto investors to gain access to their portfolio.

Further, the company narrated that the trend indicates a change from early attacks where bad actors target flaws in crypto solutions to loot users’ deposits. As it appears now, humans not project protocols are the crypto weak link.

Meanwhile, crypto hacks in 2025 have been on the rise as the state-backed North Korea hacker syndicate, the Lazarus Group has been on a hacking spree. As of October 2025, the hackers have already stolen more than $2 billion from crypto projects.
