A Hong Kong-based game software, Animoca Brands has unveiled the first phase of its new web3 game project, Anichess. According to a blog post by the company, it developed the game through a partnership with Chess.com and five-time World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen.
Animoca Brands hinted that the newly launched game project avails players of a renewed version of their favorite classic game. Anichess is quite available for free via its website. However, it requires that interested players use web or mobile browsers.
Anichess is described as a spellbinding game designed through the core principles of chess. Also, the game comes with a sumptuous and fascinating story and other gameplay elements to deliver a pleasurable experience. According to Animoca Brands, Anichess in the first phase of its launch, is expected to feature a player-versus-environment (PvE) gameplay. Meanwhile, the second phase of the game launch will unfold before the end of the first quarter of 2024, featuring player-versus-player (PvP).
Notably, Anichess maintains the ethos of chess, keeping players abreast of the importance of understanding strategic planning, probability, and psychology needed in a classic game. Aside from that, it also provides a unique spell mechanism, allowing players to enjoy the strategic depth, tactical magic, and expansive lore of a game.
The first phase of Anichess is designed to immerse players in a solo adventure. Players are expected to leverage magical spells to solve a diverse range of puzzles. Upon the completion of these challenges, they get Orbs of power game assets, which also unlock in-game utilities.
